Following Monocle's 10th Anniversary Magazine Rack, the studio has collaborated for the fifth time with M’s team to come up with a brand new limited piece of furniture: The Porto Side Table.
Matte varnished stainless steel tubes provide a bridge between the four oak-and-walnut legs, giving balance and stability to the main structure where magazines, blankets and slippers can be stored; a detachable tray functions as a platform for eating, placing books and lamps or even playing chess.
Sold in a XL pizza cardboard box, it is lightweight, easy to transport around the globe and once at the customer threshold, it’s quick to assemble using only an Allen key. Proper for any home or office space.
Crafted in Portugal and available only in M’s shop online and physical stores in 6 cities (London, Zurich, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Los Angeles & Toronto).

Part of Monocle's 10-year anniversary limited collection, the Magazine Rack has been designed by André Marinho and handcrafted in Porto by several workshops.
Polished brass tubes provide a bridge between the oak-and-walnut legs, giving balance and stability to the main structure; the army green canvas is linked to golden hooks by navy ropes, which have been individually finished.
Sold in a pizza cardboard box, it is lightweight, easy to transport around the globe and once at the customer threshold, it’s quick to assemble using only an Allen key.

Lobo Marinho teamed up for the second year in a row with the world-renowned magazine Monocle to introduce a limited-edition three-in-one pocket square.
Made from Portuguese fabric, it was available in either blue or salmon in order to brighten up any man's outfit and it's handmade in Porto.

Lobo Marinho teamed up for the first time with Monocle back in 2015 to introduce a limited-edition pocket square.

Pocket Squares 3D Printed Displayer, 2018
In order to obtain an easily assembled displayer that could be transported in a small box, laser cut was first chosen as a digital fabrication method and plywood as material. The whole idea was to draw a group of components that could lock themselves, without the need of glue or screws, into a super light structure through a few steps of assembly. The first model was produced back in 2014 and 3 plywood panels were needed taking in consideration the size of the laser cut machine.
Then, in 2016 the overall shape was re-designed by optimizing the percentage of material recquired, being able to do a single displayer with just one plywood panel slightly bigger then the previous one. However in 2017, the optimization process took a step forward and a bunch of components were cut off and a few rectification dones, allowing the production of 4 displayers in a single panel.
Meanwhile, in 2018 a final version was 3D printed allowing the possibility of producing domestically one by one (PLA/Wood filament) instead of having to laser cut four displayers at each time. This way costs, stock and waste were reduced.

André Marinho is a product designer based in Porto, Portugal. His creativepath started back in high school when he attended Soares dos Reis Arts Highschool of Porto and experienced his first steps in design and traditional crafting. He then graduated in Design at FAUL (Lisbon) and did an interchange program in UTEM (Santiago, Chile).
During his bachelor degree, André created his own project named Lobo Marinho which began with pocket squares handmade out of textile factories dead-stock.
This led him into afirst limited pocket square collaboration with the worldwide acclaimed British magazine Monocle, which was sold exclusively in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Toronto and NYC.
Followed by a second and third collaboration, he then designed from scratch and managed production of Monocle’s 10th Anniversary Magazine Rack released worldwide in 2017 and in 2019 the Monocle Porto Side Table was launched. Working on a freelance basis, André has been recently trying to mix craftsmanship processes with digital fabrication such as 3D printing. Furthermore, he has been developing his skills in generative computational design and aiming to learn novel multidisciplinary ways of building across scales with the aid of robotics and the application of newly emerging fields towards sustainable solutions in an urgent response to the most needed paradigm shift from a wasteful and environmentally harmful production and construction framework into a renewable, self-sufficient and resource-efficient one.
